Blooms coming together!
Have you heard of this amazing flower, called the Queen of the Night? Epiphyllum oxypetalum rarely blooms (mine does it in July once a year!), and the blooms open at night and are spent by the morning. Every year, it is fun to look forward to this beautiful event! A patron of mine asked me to capture the evolution of this bloom from the baby blossoms to full bloom and the flower that is spent in the morning. Here is a series of four pieces that I am wrapping up this week. Acrylic paint on paper, 5x5 inches. What is blooming...
Recent commissioned work
Sharing a couple of custom pieces that have been on my easel this week--both are the beautiful back and front yards in North Carolina and Florida residences. For this piece I had the pleasure of being there in person and snapping a quite a few reference photos on several nights, plus a sketch before I put together the final image: For this small 8x6 inch study I was working from several photos that my client provided--love the light drama going on in here! I love landscape as a subject and always delighted to work on them for my clients! What...
Trip to High Springs, FL

One of my "jobs" was leading a group of students for a nature hike...what an enchanting place! Ahh...just look at this scene; and now breath in, and breath out. Repeat. Naturally (pun intended!), this became the subject for my this week's painting project in my sketchbook. The piece...

Spring weather and more sunshine inspired me for some color yellow, which, of course, means sunflowers! A few finishing touches are in order before they appear in my Oils collection, but here is a sneak peak in the process. I love working in my studio in the morning light! Yep--it began with a ray of sunshine and with some yellow brushstrokes! Of course, that didn't last long as other colors and shapes were coming in A few lines to find the some edges and shapes... And more colors and layers... Three pieces are almost finished: one 30x24 inch canvas and two...
